Red Willow

 

This is me in a field of Red Willow. I am wearing orange because it is deer hunting season. This beautiful field of Red Willow gave a nice harvest.

Here a friend strips the bark with his jackknife. We put a sheet down to catch the bark and notice that the knife is straight up not at an angle so only the bark is removed. This is so knife does not dig into the pith.

Red willow bark is the original sacred tobacco. It was smoked to clear the minds and spirits of elders meeting in counsel it is said to help one speak from the heart.
Smoked or used as tea it has been used for headaches and migraines, nausea, circulation and earaches (blow smoke in ear).
